Ty Menyn, 7-13 Kingsway, Swansea SA1 5JN
Coastal Housing Group intends to submit a planning application to the City and County of Swansea Council for the part demolition, conversion and addition of two/three new floors to provide ground floor commercial uses and 48 residential units at the former Ty Gwalia building (Now Ty Menyn) in Swansea City Centre.
1. Read about the proposal
The proposed development proposes the conversion, alteration and extension of the vacant former Ty Gwalia building (now Ty Menyn) to provide 48 new affordable homes and commercial uses at the ground floor.
The proposal seeks to demolish the former garage bulding at the north east corner of the site and to rebuild it to tie in with the conversion of the existing Ty Menyn (formerly Ty Gwalia) building. Three new floors will be added to the former garage block and two floors to the main building. The building will provide commercial uses and two apartments at ground floor and 48 residential apartments above, with a new atrium, landscaping and other associated works.
The existing building has been vacant since 2020 and was scheduled for demolition before its acquisition by Coastal Housing Group. The proposal will retain the key character and appearance of the building while providing much needed affordable homes in a central, accessible location.
To provide a high quality living space, the central core of the existing building will be removed and an atrium created extending the full height of the building, to a glazed roof.
